The program’s overarching goal is to promote positive social-emotional behaviors in young people’s attitudes toward themselves, the people around them, and their futures.

In partnership with community adults, we nurture young people to be inspired, resilient, and healthy, and to envision themselves as co-creators of their lives, community and society. Since 2002, RHI has worked alongside residents of Red Hook to carry out resident-led solutions to local problems and to confront the impacts of racial inequity and decades of disinvestment on the our historically under-resourced community.

A day in the life of an Afterschool Senior Counselor The Afterschool Senior Counselor plays a critical role in the successful operation of the Afterschool program. The Afterschool Senior Counselor is responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school age children and provide opportunities for learning, interaction and academic/personal growth. Afterschool Counselors plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness and/or nutrition. The incumbent will also promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants, and promotes a positive spirit. Qualifications   High school diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred. Minimum of two years of experience working with youth under the age of 13 in a group setting. General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. ​Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred. Key dates The afterschool season begins on September 19, 2022 and ends on June 16, 2023. Y Afterschool programs operate from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday and during public school breaks. Huan-Yu Education Center

Huan-Yu Education Center was founded in 1997 and housed in P.S.20 for over 15 years. We offer Afterschool program, Saturday program and Summer camp program in Flushing NY(close to Flushing Queens Library) throughout the year. Afterschool program(M-F): homework help, STEM activities, arts and crafts, cultural activities, indoor playground play, hot meal included. Saturday program(Sat): Chinese language classes, English and Math, dancing, art, and Kungfu. Summer camp(July & August): Similar to Saturday program, plus trips on Fridays.

Overview: A haven for the community; Ingersoll Community Cornerstone strives to be a hub for resources, creativity, and connection. It is our mission to create an environment full of belongings and inclusion for all. Responsibilities: Assist Program Director to build a team of creative, responsive, skilled workers who are dedicated to meeting the needs of the community. Hiring, supervising, scheduling, team building, and evaluating of Center staff and consultants. Under the direction of Program Director with planning, development, and implementation of a broad and creative range of program components for underserved populations, with targeted programming for elementary, middle, and high school youth as well as adults. In collaboration with Program Director track and analyze program expenditures, while ensuring proper fiscal procedures are adhered to. Create and monitor a budget plan that supports program needs and ensure timely spending. Provide direct/indirect supervision of all program staff and delivery of services on a day-to-day basis, to ensure that all goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met. Act as primary liaison between cornerstone program and other agency departments such as HR, Finance, Facilities, and IT; as well as all external partners. In conjunction with Program Director, set, communicate, and enforce clear standards for quality youth and community development programming. Collaborate and partner with other community-based organizations and institutions to enhance the range of activities offered. Oversee program outreach efforts to recruit participants and partners with a focus on retention strategies. Communicate with NYCHA, DYCD and other key stakeholders, as well as participate in relevant meetings. Manage day-to-day operations of site including scheduling, facilities maintenance, and activity coordination. Facilitate meetings of site and building staff, including monthly building and staff meetings. Ensure compliance with all funding sources and regulating agencies; prepare reports as needed; monitor accuracy of participant attendance and data reporting; maintain files. Maintain consistent communication with Program Director about all programmatic issues. Develop and participate in high quality staff training. Organize, plan, and implement special community events. Develop a monthly community and youth advisory board. Collaborate on cross-borough and agency/department-wide events and strategic planning efforts. Complete other relevant duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Senior Program Director Attend relevant trainings and orientations. Manage employee timesheets on a biweekly basis. Help oversee interns, including Summer Youth Employment Workers, college interns, and volunteers. Ensure all DYCD and DOE required incidents reports are completed and sent to the appropriate agency. Build and maintain partnerships with local officials and community leaders. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications: Associate degree and at least 5 years as a Site Coordinator or Site Director, (i.e., youth development, program supervision, community organizing, management) required; Masters in related field preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving ability, and crisis intervention skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and be comfortable making presentations. Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative management team. Ability to think creatively, encourage enthusiasm and develop outstanding programs. Initiative, drive, and programmatic vision expected. Ability to assess priorities and take initiative. Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple task and projects. Experience designing and implementing innovative, hands-on activities that support social emotional learning and academic enrichment of the participants.
