• A day in the life of an Afterschool Senior Counselor
  The Afterschool Senior Counselor plays a critical role in the successful operation of the Afterschool program. The Afterschool Senior Counselor is responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school age children and provide opportunities for learning, interaction and academic/personal growth. Afterschool Counselors plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness and/or nutrition. The incumbent will also promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants, and promotes a positive spirit.

Qualifications  

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with youth under the age of 13 in a group setting.
• General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• ​Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred.

Key dates
The afterschool season begins on September 19, 2022 and ends on June 16, 2023. Y Afterschool programs operate from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday and during public school breaks.
