    ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND: 

    After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is one of the leading national after-school program providers in the country. Our comprehensive school-based programs combine activities and learning to help build the knowledge and skills children need to succeed, both in school and in life. 

     

    A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY: 

    We are seeking Program Directors (PD) for the 2022-2023 school year (with potential for summer work as well) in New York City. The PD will report to and work closely with the Senior Program Director for the chapter. 

    General responsibilities include overall program management and leadership and the development and monitoring of programs at one school site. 

     

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Hire, screen, train and supervise after-school program staff, including DOE personnel, college/high school students and volunteers. 
    • Attend the program daily, Monday through Friday. Must be on school site during program hours of 10:00am-6:00pm 
    • Ensure that all After-School All- Stars personnel files are current and meet DOH expectations, including fingerprints, current medicals, state clearance forms and credentials or licenses. 
    • Complete and track required training hours for self and staff as outlined under DOH guidelines. 
    • Conduct ongoing (at least monthly) professional staff development, scheduling site-based training, staff meetings, with agendas and attendance sheets. 
    • Observe and communicate with staff to provide consistent, ongoing supervision and guidance to ensure that staff upholds the policies set forth by ASAS. 
    • Collaborate with school Principal and day school staff, including but not limited to teachers, members of the school-based support team, school nurse, custodial staff, kitchen staff, school leadership team and PTA. 
    • Develop innovative programming aligned with each grade level and provide enhancements and enrichment components to support all students as individuals. Program should include academic assistance and age-appropriate recreational and social activities. 
    • Coordinate evening and weekend parent engagement programs as needed and outreach to community partners. Plan and implement community events. 
    • Monitor expenditures (personnel, supplies, OTPS,) to stay within budget set forth by the Executive Director/Senior Program Directors. Obtain immediate supervisory approval before making program purchases. 
    • Form connections with other Program Directors within the agency to gather support and information. 
    • Ensure that student records and attendance data are maintained in an accurate manner. 
    • Responsible for immediately reporting and documenting any injuries or incidents utilizing established ASAS procedures for notification to parents and ASAS leadership. 
    • Ability to observe staff and member behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply the appropriate behavior management technique, positive redirection, or corrective action as necessary to support positive behavior choices. 
    • Assist in planning and execution of fundraising activities as directed by Executive Director. 
    • Provide support for organizational operations such as payroll, verifying employee background checks, budget tracking and reconciling spending reports. 
    • Document program activities via video, photos, and recording student success stories. 
    • Serve as a liaison with school personnel and community groups to maintain positive public and working relations of program with community partners. 
    • Occasional travel off-site meetings, trainings, and events. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned. 

     

    WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, and train program staff to accomplish demonstrated objectives, while maintaining robust operational systems ensuring student safety and success. This position requires the flexibility to travel within the greater New York City area, excellent relationship-building skills, and a commitment to the mission to provide youth with quality afterschool programming. 

    • Preferred to have an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education, child development, or another child-related area; or CDA credential and 2 years’ experience related to caring for children. Teaching experience or experience running after-school programs is preferred. 
    • Significant experience with budget and data management. 
    • Familiarity and experience with diverse populations and cultural competencies are strongly desired. 
    • Availability to work evenings and Saturdays as needed; some travel within the United States required. 
    • Experience working in a leadership or supervisory capacity in a school, after school, day camp or community youth outreach setting. 
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school staff, program staff, parents, and community leaders. 
    • Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs. 
    • Familiarity with youth development principles and middle school aged youth. 
    • Ability to communicate effectively and show sensitivity to others, respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency. 
    • Familiarity with basic computer software programs. 
    • Must clear School Aged Children Care Program requirements, Statewide Central Register of Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) clearance as well as Medical, FBI Livescan, State background check and Tuberculosis Clearances. 

     

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

    The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual candidate. The range is $60,000 to $80,000. ASAS promotes a healthy work/life blend and offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, a 403b match, 18 days of paid time off, flex time, and 17 paid holidays. This position may include a cell phone and mileage reimbursement, depending on travel needs.
