    New York Edge bridges the opportunity gap students face in underinvested communities by strengthening academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life. NYE is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region.

     ABOUT THE ROLE

    The assistant program director will directly manage the day-to-day operations and delivery of New York Edge activities at an elementary school in the Wyandanch School District. 

    Reporting to the program director, the ideal candidate has experience managing a youth-centered program team, leading the implementation of academic and enrichment activities in an afterschool setting, and managing afterschool partnerships. The assistant director supports the collection of program data and the development of reports.  

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Directly responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the elementary school afterschool program site. 
    • Provide direct supervision and continuous coaching for a team of creative and engaging staff charged with delivering high-quality, innovative programming for school-aged youth. 
    • Integrate pre-designed curricula that align with day school learning standards.
    • Serve as the lead for off-site trips.
    • Troubleshoot and communicate program challenges with the program director, afterschool program staff, and school designee. 
    • Ensures the afterschool program complies with all Wyandanch School District, and DOHMH regulations and timelines. 
    • Stays abreast of all local, state, and federal pandemic management conditions and requirements.  
    • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director. 

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

     

    • Ability to be credentialed as SACC license director or supervisor.
    • Able to work early mornings, late afternoons,  evenings, and some weekends.
    • Travel may be required to our headquarters and to the school sites. 
    • Experience with E-learning and virtual learning.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and coach a diverse team. 
    • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, in-person, via email, on zoom, and by phone.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a willingness to learn other platforms such as EZReports, Salesforce, Slack, Milanote, and Asana. 
  • Required Skills/Experience:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree or demonstration of actively completing a B.A. Degree.
    • A minimum of two years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
    • Certifications and credentials in respective skill-based activities are highly preferred.
    • Must be able to switch to at-home/remote work should the need arise.
    • Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are preferred.
