    Salary: $20.00-$25.00 per hour (17.5 hours per week)

    Reports to: Program Director

    Hours: 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday (September 2026 – June 2027)

    Location: P.S. 199Q in Sunnyside, Queens (Elementary School – Grades K-5)

    Position Overview

    · The Art Instructor will report directly to our Program Director. They will work with another staff member and be responsible for the overall care and safety of children ages 5-12.

    · The instructor is responsible for developing age-appropriate lesson plans and tailoring the curriculum for different grade levels and various learning styles. The instructor will teach elementary school students in grades K-5th a variety of skills related to Art.

    This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services, which includes a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, high school job readiness, career readiness, enrichment programming, and Adult and Immigrant Services.

    Responsibilities:

    · Teach Literacy to 1-2 classes daily. Each class will be 45-55 minutes total.

    · Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and submit lesson plans on time.

    · Tailor curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs.

    · Prepare materials and examples in advance for students’ understanding during activities.

    · Be the main support in putting together a showcase for the parents at the end of each of the 3 Units.

    · Collaborate with other instructors, as well as group leaders, to make sure everyone is working towards a

    common goal for the parent showcase.

    · Meet regularly with the supervisor to share best practices and address challenges.

    · Maintain the cleanliness of the program space and ensure program supplies are well organized and in good condition.
  • Required Skills/Experience:

    Requirements:

    · Must be 18 years old or older. High School Diploma or equivalent required, some college or relevant degree in education or related field preferred.

    · A minimum of two years of experience working with children is required, experience working in an after-school environment is preferred.

    · Before hiring, fingerprints and background checks from the Department of Education and Department of Health must be finalized, along with a completed medical form.

    · Prior to employment, two professional reference letters and one personal reference letter are mandatory.

    · Must be able to work 13 school holidays throughout the year.

    · This position runs through September 2026 – June 2027
