    Hours: Up to 25 Hours per week, evening and weekend hours may be available.

    Location: Sunnyside Beacon at PS 343-The Children’s Lab School

    Position Overview

    This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services. Reporting directly to the Program Director and Assistant Director, the Afterschool Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering activities, including tailoring the curriculum for different levels of instruction and developing lesson plans.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain all COVID-19 protocols and practices including social distancing, frequent sanitation, handwashing, and mask wearing.
    • Develop age-appropriate curriculum maps and lesson plans using Project Based Learning to be submitted in a timely manner for their assigned grade and/or activity
    • Tailor the curriculum for each level of instruction to match current student needs.
    • Develop end of semester projects that will be displayed in the Showcase/Expo that highlights participants’ progress and mastery.
    • Prepare material and examples in advance for participants’ understanding during activities
    • Provide program support during high-risk times like arrival, snack and especially dismissal.
    • Work with assigned team members to collectively create a safe, brave, and learning space for all assigned participants.
    • Maintain room and activity areas cleaned and organized, in addition to the program space and use of program supplies.
    • Motivate and maintain active involvement of program participants in all activities
    • Meet regularly with supervisor and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
    • Provide supervision and mentorship for Group Leaders and Interns assigned
    • Facilitate open and positive communication with families about their participant’s progress
    • Accurate and Timely data input
    • Document all medical and behavioral incidents.
    • Attend all required meetings and training courses.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Must be 18 years old or older
    • High School Diploma required, some college or relevant degree preferred
    • Teaching experience with a minimum of two years’ experience in an afterschool environment.
    • Teaching experience within grades K to 12 preferred
    • Minimum one year experience in Lesson Planning and Execution.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadline
    • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
    • Ability to work in person – remote options are not available
    • Extensive knowledge in STEM, Arts, Sports and Fitness, Dance, Social Emotional Learning, Leadership, College/Career Advising or Community Activism preferred
