    Job Title: Group Leader

    Job Type: Part-Time

    Reports to: Program Director

    Location: New York City

    FLSA Status:  Non-exempt

    Hourly Rate or Range: $18-21 (commensurate with experience)

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (Generally: 2:30pm-6:00pm)

    Weekly Hours/ Week: 17.5

    About the Role

    Group Leaders are dynamic youth workers committed to working with the program team to deliver high quality, academically aligned arts, performance arts, sports, and/or STEM instruction to elementary, middle, or high school youth from the framework of positive youth development and social emotional literacy. This is a wonderful opportunity if you love working with children, in afterschool programs, summer programs and special projects.

    Group Leaders assist Activity Specialists and/or Teaching Artists in all areas of programming from helping to maintain the safety and security of the children during program time, assisting in facilitating groups, following lesson plans as well as following the program’s administrative procedures and policies. 

    What You’ll Do

    • Supervise and engage program participants with the goal of fostering positive youth development
    • Prepare materials and space for various age-appropriate activities
    • Assist with planning, development, and implementation of various activities & events
    • Support effective classroom management and contribute to a positive environment by being adaptable, modeling positive behavior, promoting teamwork, & fostering a welcoming & inclusive environment
    • Attend staff meetings, professional development opportunities, training sessions, & special events to enhance knowledge & skills, as required, inclusive of those outside program hours

    • Programming & Activity Facilitation: Assisting with the design & execution of activities, facilitating learning, creativity & adaptability, & encouraging youth participation
    • Classroom & Group Management: Set clear expectations, implement positive behavior management; conflict resolution, & maintaining order
    • Communication & Collaboration: Effective communication, active listening, teamwork, & building relationships with various stakeholders, departments, youth, and staff
    • Professionalism & Development: Role modeling, accountability, openness to feedback, & Commitment to growth

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or its equivalent  
    • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children and/or youth in a professional setting   
    • Strong ability to form and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, youth, families, and other stakeholders  
    • Responsible; organized & demonstrate positive communication skills  
    • Able to set an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and professionalism  
    • Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner
