WNY STEM HubWNY STEM Hub Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, mobilizes schools and stakeholders to develop, nurture and maximize interest in STEM careers through hands-on, one-of-a kind experiences. NYSED 21st Century Community Learning Centers Technical Assistance Resource Center, Rest of State RegionThe 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) program is the only federal funding source dedicated to supporting afterschool and local summer learning programs through the US Department of Education. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act, now known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), updated and reauthorized the 21st CCLC program in December 2015. Each state receives funds based on its share of Title I funding for low-income students. Grants support afterschool and summer learning programs that provide the following services to students attending high-poverty, low-performing schools: Academic enrichment activities that can help students meet state and local achievement standards. A broad array of additional services designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program, such as: drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, and recreation programs, technology education programs, and character education programs. Literacy and related educational development services to the families of children who are served in the program. The purpose of the Resource Center is to provide ongoing support to all 21st CCLC subgrantees to improve the quality of their programs and, in turn, improve the academic, social and emotional outcomes of the students and the literacy of their families. |

PowerPlay NYCPowerPlay NYC is a nonprofit organization with a mission to advance the lives of girls through sports, helping them grow physically, emotionally and academically stronger. PowerPlay NYC offers sports-based day school, after school and summer programs for 1,100 youth. Over 90% of our participants are youth of color (predominantly Black and Latinx) and most reside in low-income neighborhoods in the five boroughs of NYC. Our programs provide a safe space for our girls, assist in boosting their self-confidence and foster a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. Woodside on the Move, IncWoodside on the Move was founded on September 24, 1976 with the mission to improve the conditions of the Woodside commercial district. During the first 10 years the organization ran under the leadership and vision of Mr. Kevin Mahon. His foresight and vitality steered WOTM to become a leading force in the revitalization of the Woodside community. The organization developed programs to improve Woodside’s housing, industry, and commerce and provided the community with free cultural performances, as well as recreational and educational activities for children. Today we have become a leading force in NYC tenant advocacy initiatives as part of the Queens chapter of the housing coalition Stabilizing NYC and one of the largest free after school and summer camp providers in the city, serving over 800 elementary school children in the community. |

Playworks – Education Energized!Playworks is an Oakland-based national nonprofit that supports learning and physical health by providing safe and inclusive play to students in urban, suburban, rural and digital schools. Playworks works with schools to design curriculum and activities that offer play opportunities during recess, lunch and after school programs. Trained coaches work in schools to run a variety of games and sports, as well as teach techniques in group management, violence prevention and conflict resolution. |
