  • Job Description:

    Mentoring in Medicine (MIM) is Seeking Teachers Teaching assistant, to support the LEGACY After-School and Saturday Academy at Roosevelt Union Free School District

     

    Days/Times: Monday, February 13 to Thursday, May 25, 2023

    Hosted for 3 hours a day from Monday to Thursday 

    Elementary and Middle School from 2:30pm to 5:30pm

    High School from 3pm to 6pm

     

    *Please note: Depending on where you’re assigned, you are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the session.

     

    Saturday Academy: Spring launch 

     

    Are you interested in leading the instructional support to an after-school program that combines academic enrichment with youth development activities such as sports, drama, dance, mobile app development, arts and crafts and college preparation? These activities will have a basis in the health sciences. A background in medicine is not required. We are building a team of passionate individuals to deliver fun and creative educational programs. Though we are currently hiring for after school program, please note that this learning center will have additional Summer, Saturday, and future after school opportunities.   

     

    Responsibilities include:

    • Ensure a safe, engaging and productive learning environment 
    • Facilitate student leadership, learning and small group interactions
    • Based on your level of interest, provide support to extracurricular activities such as drama, dance, arts, coding and other areas.
    • Work alongside student instructors
    • Listen to student needs and adapt the lesson plans accordingly 
    • Discuss topics in the news
    • Assign and review optional fun home activities
    • Communicate with program directors, supervising teachers, parents and evaluators
    • Assist with research—data collecting, inputting and analyzing
    • Participate in professional development activities
    • Videotape and photograph capstone projects
  • Required Skills/Experience:

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Teaching or tutoring alongside previous youth development experience
    • Coachable in the areas of conflict resolution and group dynamics
    • Need for bi-lingual educators who speak Spanish (preferred but not required)
    • Previous coursework in college-level Biology is a plus but not required
    • Must pass a background and drug test
    • Willingness to sign a non-disclosure and confidentiality agreement
