The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The Dodge YMCA is seeking a Program Coordinator who will play a critical role in the successful operation of in-person services at the Learning Lab program. Under the supervision of the Site Director, the Program Coordinator will work with the Site Director to provide oversight and support and ensure quality program execution. Through strong School, Branch, staff, family, and community relationships, the Program Coordinator will work toward accomplishing the program’s vision and goals. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing a safe and positive on-site environment for school-age children and for providing opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic/personal growth.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants by providing appropriate supervision at all times. Understand, maintain, and ensure that participants follow Risk Management and safety procedures.

    • Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures.

    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the program.

    • Assist the Site Director in leadership and oversight of the program.

    • Assist the Site Director in supervising Group Leaders and Activity Specialists by monitoring performance, providing support, coaching, and recognition, and holding staff accountable for performance expectations.

    • Work with Group Leaders to plan and implement meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that build the level of skill and confidence, are age-appropriate, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, SEL, creative expression, community service, leadership, civic engagement, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.

    • Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the room, program supplies, and activity space.

    • Perform specific scheduled assignments, including, but not limited to, arrival and/or departure, lunch and snack duties, family and culminating events, registration, and administrative duties.

    • Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including, but not limited to, creating a supportive learning environment where participants can complete their work in person or remotely.

    • Work cooperatively with branch staff during the program planning and implementation process.

    • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.

    • Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.

    • Observe and assess the individual needs of children and handle student-related problems.

    • Maintain accurate program records (participant files, staff files, data entry, incident/accident/behavior reports, attendance & sign-in/sign-out sheets, and licensing requirements).

    • Monitor and update all required staff training attendance and certifications. Support the development and facilitation of all required training sessions.

    • Ensure that supplies and equipment are available and kept safe.

    • Fiscal contract management.

    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians by regularly communicating about their child’s strengths and areas for growth.

    • Serve as a positive role model for participants.

    • Understand and communicate the YMCA’s core values and the goals of the program to participants and caregivers.

    • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events. Attend all required training sessions.

    • Adhere to all Department of Health, Department of Education, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.
