  • Job Description:

    SUMMARY- Candidate must be cognizant of and then adhere to NYS OCFS regulations. Candidate assists Site Director with daily operation of the Afterschool program located in Albany. Position is held from September to June during the Albany School Calendar year.

     

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Work with Site Director and Director of Youth Services in promoting the afterschool program to students of ASH, Montessori, TOAST and/or Kaleidoscope.
    • Assist Site Director with day to day operations of afterschool program.
    • Help students acquire new or improved program skills.
    • Communicate with parents and establish relationships that will ensure retention with afterschool and various programs at the JCC facility.
    • Attend all scheduled conferences, trainings and meetings during afterschool and/or after regular daily afterschool hours.
    • Assume tasks in a mature manner and work with students in a warm and sensitive way, following the program schedule.
    • Assist Site Director to ensure consistency throughout the program in regards day to day operations as well as children, parent, and staff interactions.
    • Shop for program snack and supplies within set budget amounts (if needed).
    • Assist Site Director with submitting attendance documents and CACFP snack count forms to JCC at the end of each month.
    • Assist Site Director with conducting a monthly fire drill and site safety check as mandated by the State.
    • Allow for flexibility working in a child care based program with variety of children and staff members, and variable program space limitations.
    • Assist Director of Youth Services with staff evaluations in December and at end of the school year.
    • Assist with inventory of equipment at beginning and end of the school year.
    • Bring any concerns about students and staff to Site Director.
    • Each staff member is a Mandated Reporter for child abuse and maltreatment. Each staff member must take the Mandated Reporter training within their first six months of being hired, along with other trainings for the 15 hour training requirement from NYS OCFS.

     

     

    Office/Technical Responsibilities

     

    • Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities    

     

    • Current CPR and first aid certification required
    • MAT certification preferred
    • Must be at least 21 year old
    • School Age Credential certification preferred

     

    • Education and Experience:
      • Relevant college education in regard to subject matter
      • Previous experience with children (minimum 2 years)
      • Previous supervisory experience preferred (minimum 2 years)
    • Working Environment:
      • Able to work indoors and outdoors, in and around a school, and at offsite locations for field trips that occur indoors and outdoors, etc.
      • Assist Site Director with inspection of program area and equipment for safety concerns.
    • Physical Demands:

     

    • Will include moving/lifting tables, boxes, groceries, other program equipment, etc.
    • Able to shop at Price Chopper for program snack (if needed).

     

    Other

    • Assist with fundraising events as needed
    • Spearhead or assist on special projects as may be assigned
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Required Skills/Experience:

    Experience working with Pre-K to 5th graders – 1-2 years at least – required (especially Pre-K)

    Education – at least Associate’s Degree in Education, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology or similar degree – required

    Managerial experience – at least 1 year – preferred

    CPR and 1st Aid – required at start of employment
