    Group Leader

    Our Purpose
    Group Mentors at Educational Alliance will coach and mentor school aged youth; by enhancing social skills, and character development. Using a mentor model, we will support youth from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. We are committed to providing educational support, using a social emotional lens. We value our own professional development and successes that lead to an enriching experience for our program participants because we bring our best selves to work and put the needs of the students first during after school hours (M-F from 2 to 6pm).

     

    Nature of Position

    Educational Alliance seeks a dedicated and inspired team member who is committed to creating positive and supportive spaces for girls in an after school setting. The successful candidate will possess the following skills; ability to relationship build with elementary students (K-5,  facilitate in an engaging, creative and supportive way; ability to incorporate youth development and community building in curriculum design; have a keen awareness of and celebrate the vast cultural experiences of New York City youth. Responsibilities will also include implementing curriculum, modifying and developing activities that are fun and engaging.

     

    Job Type: Part-time Salary: $20.00 /hour

  • Required Skills/Experience:

    Requirements:

    • Availability to work on site at the from 2:00pm-6:00pm Monday – Friday from September 19th – June 16th
    • Bachelor Degree or currently pursuing a degree with at least 1 year of professional experience working with youth
    • Associates Degree or some college degree preferred in education or psychology or related field.
    • Previous experience working with children ages 5 to 13 years old strongly preferred.
    • Previous experience in youth programming or summer camp is a PLUS
    •  A desire to build one-on-one relationships with youth in program community and participate in a variety of activities
    • Passionate about working with culturally diverse youth Flexible team player, has the ability to think on your feet
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with co-group mentor/team
    • Ability to effectively affirm and value diversity of ethnicity, language, religion, sexual identity and gender of our youth
    • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, courteous and friendly manner
    • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all community members, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution
    • A great sense of humor
    • Ability to develop lesson plans and modify curriculum
    • Inspired through creativity and able to bring these talents to the work site
    • High emotional intelligence
    • Ability to be a mentor and be a resource to students, staff, families and embrace/foster cultural inclusiveness
    • Reliable, timely, ability to receive and provide feedback in a constructive way.
    • Able to follow through on directives given by supervisor.
    • Responsible for administrative duties such as daily attendance, reporting, homework logs, incident reports,
    • Willingness to work extended hours when school is not in session if necessary (e.g., Mid-Winter Recess, Spring Recess, etc.)
    • COVID Vaccine Mandated
    • CPR/First Aid Certifications or the ability/willingness to obtain one
    • Bilingual in any language including Spanish is a PLUS
