  • Job Description:

    Temple Israel seeks a dynamic leader and relationship builder to join our team as our Director of Camping, Youth, and Family Engagement. This position is an exempt full-time employee, who will oversee our youth and family engagement strategy, develop innovative programming, and oversee our summer day camp, Camp Givah.

    The Director of Camping, Youth, and Family Engagement will be a member of the leadership team, and will help design an engagement strategy that will capture the imagination, energy, and enthusiasm of youth and families at Temple Israel.

    The Director of Camping, Youth, and Family Engagement will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of Temple Israel’s Camp Givah day camp. This includes managing camp staff (including hiring), leading and training counselors, overseeing policies, and managing the camp budget.This will also include coordinating advertising campaigns for camp enrollment, writing grant applications, and supporting lay leaders in fundraising activities for the camp.

    The Temple Israel Director of Camp, Youth, and Family Engagement will help advance our synagogue into the future and build on the core strengths at Temple Israel. By working collaboratively with our clergy, professional staff, and volunteer leadership, this Director will help ensure our synagogue is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant place for our young families, new members, and the next generation of the Albany Jewish community.

  • Required Skills/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation or other related fields preferred
    • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and communication skills
    • Experience with supervision of full and/or part time staff
    • Experience with program management and implementation
    • Must demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to be a team player
    • Ability to hire, train, and supervise staff
    • Strong organizational and computer skills
    • Mature disposition, creativity, outgoing and energetic personality
    • Knowledge of Jewish Holidays and customs
    • Background in informal Jewish education is a plus but not required
    • Knowledge and understanding issues of youth growth and development
    • 3-5 years’ experience in camping preferred
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends, and overnights as needed
    • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and ability to work independently
