  • Job Description:

    > What are the responsibilities of the position?

    • You will be teamed up with one of our lead teaching artists. You will support them during school-day classes OR after-school enrichment classes in; classroom management, activities, instruction, demonstrations, communication and supervision. You will be there to help them lead an engaging, inclusive, safe and positive arts-education class for the children. 
    • Activities you may be teamed up with a Lead Teaching Artist for could include: music (drumming and percussive arts or beatboxing or song-writing / beats & technology), dance and movement (all genres), visual and mixed-media art (and arts/crafts), theatre arts, yoga and mindfulness, STEM and social emotional or wellness games / activities. 
    • Great opportunity for people who have: 2 of more years of proven experience working in schools, afterschools or camps with PreK – 8th grade youth, a belief in the power of arts to educate/engage/empower youth, and an excitement to support work with world renowned teaching artists and specialists 

    > What experience is required? Preferred?

    • At least 2 years experience in the arts, education or child-care field, as a teacher or an assistant

    > What are the anticipated hours?

    • Hours can be flexible, based on agreed-upon schedule and availability
    • Monday-Friday school day classes occur sometime between 9:00 am-2:45 pm
    • Monday – Friday afters school classes occur sometime between 3:00pm – 5:45pm
    • You can be scheduled to work 1-4 classes in total per day – each class is 45-60 minutes long on average and we are required to arrive on site 20 – 30 minutes prior to each class start time
    • Depending on your availability, we can explore booking you to work 1-5 days a week  

    > What is the salary/hourly range? Indicate if this is non-negotiable.

    • $28 – $35 per hour depending on experience 
    • There are opportunities based on experience to have you be a Sub lead teacher if needed and / or to get invited to become a lead teacher at which point, payrates will increase

    > What is the age range of the youth served by the organization?

    • Public and charter elementary and middle schools, 5-13 year olds

    > What is your hiring process/timeline?

    • We will schedule an interview within 2 weeks of receiving your application if we feel it is a good fit
    • From there if we find you a good fit for our team from the interview we will add you to our teaching assistant artist roster. 
    • We will reach out once our gigs are officially booked to ask if you are interested in joining a specific event or residency as a teaching assistant. 
    • Please note that you will be working as an independent contractor so we cannot guarantee you a job at any point, but we do our best to find a great fit and position for you within our events and residencies
  • Required Skills/Experience:
    • Must be at least 18 years or older!
    • At least 2 years experience working in arts education teaching or assisting.
    • Experience working in schools or with large groups of children. 
    • Experience in the arts, music (drumming and percussive), dance, art, theatre arts, yoga mindfulness. Does not need to be professional but must have basic knowledge.
    • Experience working with different learning styles and children of different backgrounds.
    • Someone who loves arts education, working with children and wants experience working in schools around the city!
