The Activity Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Content Specialist and Program Director and is responsible for creating and facilitating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for participants enrolled in the COMPASS and SONYC programs. The Activity Specialist plays a key role in delivering high-quality youth development programming that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, creativity, leadership, and positive engagement.
The Activity Specialist is responsible for implementing project-based learning experiences and specialized enrichment activities that align with Project New Yorker’’s curriculum framework, program goals, and participant interests. Through hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate instruction, the Activity Specialist helps participants strengthen educational skills, develop new competencies, and build confidence in a variety of learning areas. Activities are designed to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity while supporting participants’ overall growth and development.
The Activity Specialist will plan, organize, and facilitate specialized programming in areas such as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), visual and performing arts, organized sports and recreation, music, literacy, academic enrichment, leadership development, health and wellness, and other educational and enrichment activities as determined by program needs and participant interests. The Specialist is expected to create engaging learning experiences that encourage active participation, skill development, and exploration of new interests.
