Senior Extension Associate
(Working Title: NYS 4-H Director)
Cornell Cooperative Extension Program (CCE)
Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) connects communities with research from Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology (CHE) and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) to enrich and empower New York state neighbors, local businesses, towns and cities. Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) puts knowledge to work in pursuit of economic vitality, ecological sustainability and social well-being. With a presence in all New York state counties and the five boroughs of New York City, local CCE offices provide programming and resources tailored to the needs of their communities.
The 4-H Director guides CCE’s 4-H Youth Development Program, a flagship program of Cornell Human Ecology (CHE) and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University, and the national Cooperative Extension System. The Director position is a core leadership position in CCE requiring a high level of collaboration with the leadership in Cornell Human Ecology (CHE), and Extension Administration in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). In addition, the 4-H Director must engage effectively and proactively with the field-based Association structure of the CCE System.
With a commitment to evidence-based education and strong research program partnerships, the 4-H Director provides guidance and vision for the 4-H program in New York State, in collaboration with local Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) 4-H staff, faculty researchers, and extension leaders in both colleges and the broader University. The Director supervises and supports the NYS 4-H professionals within the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR) in Human Ecology and oversees the effort to support the county-based 4-H field staff who implement 4-H programming in the communities of New York state. In addition, the 4-H State Director is the primary point of connection with the 4-H program leadership at the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and National 4-H Council.
