    The Lead Teacher works in partnership with the Center Director and Early Head Start staff to create a program that addresses the individual needs of the children assigned to her/his care. The Lead Teacher is responsible for observing and monitoring student activity at all times; must be constantly aware of the locations of students and keep them in line of sight. Through this observation, they must be able to recognize inappropriate behavior and use age-appropriate classroom management techniques to maintain structure and safety. The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing weekly lesson plans using provided curriculum, as well as complete all required assessments. The Lead Teacher is a dynamic person who is able to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential.

  • Required Skills/Experience:
    • Actively participates with children in activities. Stimulates each child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn.
    • Assists in planning and implementing appropriate age level activities for children based on The Creative Curriculum, and Early Head Start performance standards.
    • Respects the individuality of each child.
    • Provide opportunities for daily communication with parents and guardians.
    • Develops and maintains good working relationships with parents, supervisors, children, and co-workers.
    • Participates in staff meetings and professional development as required.
    • Acts as a role model for appropriate behavior and language for children
    • Ensures that children are released to authorized individuals only.
    • May need to perform organizational duties for teachers, like copying, printing and other computer work.
    • As a mandated reporter, must report any suspected cases of child abuse to the appropriate authorities. The center must keep records of any reported abuse and the response of the investigator.
    • Assists in basic custodial duties, maintains clean and orderly work environment.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Preferred associate degree in Early Childhood Development, minimum requirement of a Child Development Associate Credential
