    New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

    Summary

    New York Edge aims to be a city leader in innovative and effective STEM education initiatives and invites experienced and motivated professionals to apply to the Director of STEM Education and Cutting Edge STEM Labs position. Our organization is deeply committed to enhancing the quality and excellence of STEM education and increasing STEM access and learning for K-12 students who are underrepresented in STEM careers. The ideal candidate must have expertise in one of the STEM disciplines, or STEM education, and can provide leadership in the following areas: STEM education research,   STEM curriculum design and implementation, instructor training and professional development, grant development and management, assessment and evaluations, and partnership management.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Create a STEM-focused club culture that is kid-friendly, resource-rich, and innovative.
    • Enhance the user experience for students in afterschool STEM clubs.
    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of STEM curricula, lesson plans, and instructional training models.
    • Build a dynamic, diverse, and inclusive STEM team that includes curriculum writers, instructors, STEM assistants, and partners.
    • Collaborate with site-based leadership to create customized STEM activities.
    • Integrate emerging K-12 STEM research and best practices into the program model.
    • Collaborate with instructors and site-based leadership to collect feedback from students/families and use that data to drive curriculum updates and offerings.
    • Provide ongoing coaching for instructional staff and site-leadership.
    • Develop new and manage existing partnerships.
    • Curate online STEM content
    • Provide instructional interventions with proven results.
    • Attend professional development meetings.
    • Enforce New York Edge policies to ensure compliance with grant agreements regarding the STEM initiative and regulations mandated by after-school partners, e.g., DOE, DYCD, OCFS, DOH, and other funding sources
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • An unwavering belief that all students can be successful and that dynamic and well-thought-out instruction is key to learning.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or Computer Science. Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Five-plus years of experience in science education, STEM curriculum development, or K-12 teaching.
    • Strong organizational, operational, and project management skills.
    • Effective communication skills. Ability to write for multiple audiences, including students, parents, school administrators, donors, and grantors.
    • Advance technical knowledge in at least one of the STEM disciplines.
    • Have the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

    Covid-19 Related Requirements:

    • Must provide proof of vaccination against the Covid-19 virus.
    • Must be able to adhere to all federal, state, and local mandates regarding the Covid-19 virus which include but are not limited to wearing PPE and remaining socially distant whenever possible.
