  • Job Description:

    We have positions available in the Youth Department at the Norwich Family YMCA. We are looking for people to work at our After School Program Sites as Supervisors, Group Teachers, and Group Assistants in Greene, Oxford, and Norwich. A position in one of our After School Programs will give you the opportunity to help with implementation of school age activities, create a positive and nurturing relationship with children, facilitate peer to peer connections, and promote the potential of all youth.

    Available Positions:

    1. After School Program Site Supervisor – Greene, Oxford, Norwich Holy Family School (PT, hourly, wage commensurate with experience)
    2. After School Program Group Teacher – Greene, Oxford, Norwich (PT, hourly, wage commensurate with experience)
    3. After School Program Group Teacher with Early Childhood Experience – Greene, Norwich Holy Family School (PT, hourly, wage commensurate with experience)
    4. After School Program Group Assistant – Greene, Oxford, Norwich (PT, hourly, wage commensurate with experience)

     

    1. Site Supervisor

    A Site Supervisor will be responsible for the operation of the After School Program at their specified site. This entails ensuring that the program is running in accordance to regulations set forth by the Office of Children and Family Services, overseeing the Group Teachers and Group Assistants at the site, making sure that the children are safe at all times and engaged in age appropriate activities, and communicating with the Youth Development Director throughout the school year.

    Qualification include:

    • At least 21 years of age
    • An Associate degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field, OR NYS Children’s Program Administer credential and one year experience working with children less than 13 years of age, or School Age Childcare Credential or other office recognized credential specific to school-age developmental period and Two years direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.
    • Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens trainings to be completed within 30 days of hire.
    • Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.

    1. Group Teacher

    An After School Program Group Teacher will be responsible for a specified group of children throughout the duration of the program. This person will ensure that the children are safe at all times and engaged in age appropriate activities, they will help children navigate social situations and help them to problem solve, be able to utilize age appropriate behavior management strategies, develop and implement crafts and other large and fine motor activities for the children, work well with other After School Program staff, and communicate effectively with the Site Supervisor and Youth Development Director.

    Qualifications include:

    • At least 18 years of age
    • An Associate degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field, or NYS Children’s Program Administer credential and one year experience working with children less than 13 years of age, or School Age Childcare Credential or other office recognized credential specific to school-age developmental period and Two years direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.

     

    1. Group Teacher with Early Childhood Experience

    An After School Program Group Teacher will be responsible for the 4 – 6 year old children in the After School Program. This person will ensure that the children are safe at all times and engaged in age appropriate activities, they will help children navigate social situations and help them to problem solve, be able to utilize age appropriate behavior management strategies, develop and implement crafts and other large and fine motor activities for the children, work well with other After School Program staff, and communicate effectively with the Site Supervisor and Youth Development Director.

    Qualifications include:

    • At least 18 years of age
    • An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; or a Child Development Associate Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period; and one year of experience related to caring for children; or 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to a Child Development Associate Credential, other Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period, or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field; and two years of experience related to caring for children.

     

    1. Group Assistant

    An After School Program Group Assistant will assist the Group Teachers throughout the duration of the After School Program. This person will help to ensure that children are safe at all times and engaged in age appropriate activities, they will help children to problem solve and alert the Group Teacher to any situations that may arise, they will work well with other After School Program staff and communicate effectively with the Group Teachers, Site Supervisor, and Youth Development Director.

    Qualifications include:

    • At least 16 years of age
    • a High School Diploma, or its equivalent, or one year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
