  • Job Description:

    Reporting directly to the Program Director and Assistant Director, the After-School Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering activities, including tailoring the curriculum for different levels of instruction and developing lesson plans. This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services offered at Sunnyside Community Services.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure the safety of all program participants, including daily attendance tracking.
    • Maintain all Covid-19 protocols and practices including social distancing, frequent sanitation, handwashing, and mask wearing.
    • Develop age-appropriate curriculum maps and lesson plans using project-based learning to be submitted in a timely manner for their assigned grade.
    • Tailor the curriculum for each level of instruction to match student needs.
    • Develop end-of-semester projects that will be displayed in the Showcase/Expo that include STEM, Community Circle, Health and Nutrition, Art, Literacy, Movement, and Leadership.
    • Develop a student-led club choice using SEL principles and creativity.
    • Prepare materials and examples in advance for student understanding during activities.
    • Provide program support during high-risk times like arrival, snacks, and dismissal.
    • Work with assigned team members to collectively create a safe learning space for all assigned participants.
    • Ensure that room and activity areas are cleaned and organized.
    • Motivate and maintain active involvement of program participants.
    • Meet regularly with supervisor and other staff members to share best practices and address challenges.
    • Maintain the cleanliness of program space and ensure program supplies are well organized and in good condition.
    • All other duties as assigned.
  • Required Skills/Experience:

    Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years old or older.
    • High school diploma.
    • Teaching experience with a minimum of two years of experience in an after-school environment.
    • Minimum one year experience in lesson planning and execution.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
    • Ability to wear a mask during work hours, regardless of vaccination status.
    • Flexibility to work remotely.

    After-school staff are expected to be committed to the position until June 30, 2023. Instructors will be required to work during Holiday Camps.

    Hours: 3 – 6 pm , Monday through Friday; potential for evening and weekend classes.
