Department: Middle School Success Center
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours: Temporary, Part Time (8-12 hours per week)
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Program Overview: The after-school programs at Corlears Educational Complex, located at 220 Henry Street serves students from kindergarten to 8th grade. Our SONYC program is a DYCD funded program which is free to all students 6th-8th grade engage participants in a variety of age-appropriate activities, including homework help, structured recreation, visual arts and youth leadership opportunities. Our after-school program specifically for United Neighborhood Middle School offers students physical recreation such as basketball, cooking and nutrition, video production and mixed media arts using technology. Our most recent after-school program for elementary aged youth for Manhattan Charter School 2 is a fee based academic support program providing small group home work assistance daily.


  • Bachelors Degree (Education, Nutrition or related field) required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in after-school or camp settings required
  • Strong content knowledge of Common Core Standards
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate skill development strategies for students grades 6-8.
  • Interest in providing quality hands-on, inquiry based projects, enrichment, and recreation experiences to youth in grades 6-8.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work with students from a variety of academic backgrounds and skill levels
  • Strong organizational, multitask, and follow through skills
  • Self-motivated ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and positive team-oriented attitude
  • Must be able to be on site by 3pm Monday—Friday and Saturdays 12-4pm.
  • Must be able to attend some daytime meetings and trainings
  • Must be able to work holidays


  • Lead a class of 15, 6-8 grade students in cooking healthy living meals/snacks/deserts.
  • Create a curriculum that can be executed at least twice weekly for 10 weeks, to support healthy living through cooking.
  • Plan and execute appropriate hands-on inquiry based projects, enrichment, and recreation experiences
  • Find/create opportunities for students to expand and build upon their interests
  • Distribute materials and information relevant to the activity
  • Maintain records of all participants and activities including attendance sheets and progress within the activity
  • Review and assess individual students via surveys, observation, and feedback
  • Prepare students for performances
  • Attend mandatory trainings in compliance with NYC DOH regulations
  • Provide Henry Street Settlement with all of the required paperwork, certifications, and support documents in compliance with NYC DOH regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
