Job Description:
Our Afterschool Program serves school-aged children between the ages of 5-12 years. The Activity Coach will report to the Director and Site Supervisor during afterschool hours.
The Activity Coach will provide a 45-50 minute class twice per afternoon for 7-15 school-age children grouped by specific required age ratios during the Afterschool Program hours. The activity offered should be based on what the instructor would like to teach and has experience doing.
In addition, the Activity Coach will assist the children during snack/homework help time prior to the start of the first activity.
Activities can be arts-based, science-based, craft-based, or physical fitness related. We especially seek someone who can run a class doing soccer or basketball, and someone who can run a class doing music, art or jewelry making.
Responsibilites include:
- Create age-appropriate lessons that engage & instruct the students in a specific activity.
- Provide specific lesson plans as needed or required by the Director or Site Supervisor.
- Maintain group and individual participants’ safety & well-being.
- Set up and break down of all equipment/supplies used as well as necessary cleaning of space used.
- Ensure appropriate use of supplies & equipment.
- Assist with daily homework help as needed.
- Maintain health & safety protocols and ratio requirements.
- Proper and regular attendance taking when needed.
- Assisting the children with arrival and dismissal as needed.
- Assisting with appropriate conflict resolution within the group as needed.
- Work closely with the Group Leader as needed to maintain safety & well-being.
- Required Skills/Experience:
- Must be available during program hours, M-F: 2:00 or 2:15 pm – 6:00 pm.
- Must follow all Covid-19 health & safety protocols as per the DOE & DOH, including vaccination status.
- Previous proven experience or training in the subject matter that will be taught in the activity class.
- Previous experience working with children ages 5-12. Babysitting experience or other child care experience accepted.
- True interest in working with children, guiding and instructing them, sharing your talent/knowledge of a specific field.
- Patience, kindness, punctuality, flexibility. Team player.
- This position begins after all clearances are complete. This includes mandatory fingerprinting.
- Will require various mandatory online or in-person trainings throughout the school year.
