 People with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and complex needs often lack support and information regarding relationships and sexual wellbeing. This lack of information can contribute to unhealthy relationships and/or sexual assault. Staff from agencies serving PDD clients report that they do not feel prepared to provide this information and support due to a lack of personal knowledge, comfort, and skill. At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a rationale for integrating sexual health into their work with people with developmental disabilities;
  • Develop tools that support client boundaries, healthy relationships, and sexuality;
  • Identify appropriate topics for discussion and role play sexual health conversations with clients;
  • Use inclusive education techniques for teaching sexual health education to people with developmental disabilities.

Talking Sexual Health with People with Developmental Disabilities provides information that every provider should know, especially educators.
