Shame-Free Sex Ed: Undoing Stigma and Promoting Healthy Messages

Sexuality educators often hear a variety of stigmatizing comments about sexuality topics from youth and adult clients alike. This training will examine some of the common stigmas and stereotypes that arise in the world of sexual and reproductive health, concerning topics such as gender norms, identity, abortion, masturbation, victim-blaming, sexually transmitted infections, and media messages. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:

  • reflect on how shaming messages can impact participants’ sexual health decision making;
  • identify and debunk stigmatizing language; and
  • address teachable moments to offer healthy sexuality messages.
