Job Description:

 

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Arts Education Manager, Teaching Artists are responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of high quality arts education activities for Casita’s youth. Teaching Artists serve as role models with high expectations for youth. As the STEP Teaching Artist you will be working with a group of middle-school students who have a passion for STEP and have previously worked on hip-hop, West-African, Flamenco Dance and Bombazo Dance. You should be a dynamic STEP teacher with a variety of STEP styles and routines that you can teach. An emphasis on nutrition and healthy living should also be incorporated into your curriculum.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic self-starter who will be creative in the classroom, constantly engaging youth in learning activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop lesson plans for afterschool activities that align with NYC Department of Education Arts Blueprint targets

  • Ability to teach in a hands-on, experiential learning style and inspire students to reach for higher-level outcome

  • Maintain a structured environment in the classroom that is conducive to learning

  • Use open-ended question, allow for student choice , use appropriate encouragement techniques, and ensure that students are always engaged in the classroom

  • Attend paid periodic professional development workshops

Required Skills/Experience:

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in Dance/ Dance Education or related field and two years of teaching experience or a Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience

  • Excellent literacy content background and excellent written and communication skills

  • Eager to work in a fast-paced, arts and education-focused, entrepreneurial environment

  • Ability to adapt to the specialized instructional charter school environment
    Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively, quickly and under pressure – with a sense of humor

  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks

  • Integrity, professional discretion and professionalism

  • Experience and/or willingness to work with children with educational or emotional special needs

  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

  • Enjoy working with children with an understanding of youth development

  • Successful candidates will need to pass a background check including DOH fingerprint clearance and medical examination
