Building upon its legacy for innovation and effective programming, Henry Street has grown to offer more than 50 different programs, currently making it one of the most comprehensive settlement house in New York City, as well as one of the City’s largest social service agencies. Henry Street is governed by a 45-member Board of Directors and is supported by government grants and contracts, as well as foundation, corporate and individual support.

 

Education and Employment Services is an 8.2 million dollar division serving about 9000 people each year through a continuum of services from Early Childhood Education through Adult Workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Education Services include an Early Learn Program, After School Programs (6 sites), 4 Day Camps, Youth Recreation, High School Initiatives including 2 Community Schools, and our Expanded Horizons College Success Program. Programming takes place within 3 community center sites and multiple school-based programs. Employment Services include walk-in employment services, employment services for a public housing population, ESL job readiness training, and employment services for youth including SYEP and Young Adult Internship and Adult Literacy Programs.

 

Expanded Horizons College Success Program is a comprehensive eight-year program which is designed to ensure that high school students are college-ready and admitted to a college that fits their interests and abilities, and graduate from that institution on time. Our eight-year cohort-based model allows high school students to benefit from college readiness programming that includes SAT preparation, college readiness workshop, overnight college tours and career/college counseling. Designed as a program to help meet student financial need, Expanded Horizons students accrue scholarship dollars for every year they participate fully in the program to be used while in college.

 

The Expanded Horizons College Success Program seeks to hire a 11th grade youth development facilitator that is able to build curriculum and facilitate year round lessons on College Access and Knowledge for 11th graders. This role requires a commitment of 10 hours per week that includes 6 hours of facilitation at a rate of $30-$40 per hour, depending on experience. Facilitator will be expected to lead groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm -7pm.

Responsibilities:

·         Develop, implement, and facilitate College Access and Knowledge workshops twice a week for 11th graders focused on topics relevant to first-generation college students transitioning to college.

·         Build strong and authentic relationships with students.

·         Structure and lead culminating program events.

·         Participate in weekly check-ins with Director.

·         Ensure consistent attendance and learning outcomes for each session are met.

·         Document and review student learning progress through surveys and check-ins with students.

·         Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Required Skills/Experience:

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree required with preference given to education and human services related fields.

·         At least 3 years of experience teaching or facilitating workshops for NYC high school-aged youth.

·         Demonstrate understanding of and practice the principles of positive youth development.

·         Strong commitment to supporting the academic achievement and access to higher education of young adults who are low income, immigrants and/or will be the first in their families to attend college.

·         Ability to engage and inspire a diverse group of students.

·         Experience facilitating and developing experiential learning programs.

·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

·         Ability to work independently and work collaboratively.

·         Highly self-motivated and creative.

·         Ability and willingness to have fun in the classroom.

·         Understand intersectionality as it pertains to race, gender, class, privilege and other identities.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and Microsoft Outlook.
