RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Teaching Load - Teach two ELA or math hours (same lesson both hours) per afternoon (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). Over the course of the week, Weekday Instructors teach one lesson plan to 6 different small groups of students.
Attendance & Punctuality - Commit to teach on all scheduled days of programming, arrive to programming on time (30 min before first class), and attend all meetings as scheduled by staff.
Careful Preparation – Read and annotate all lesson materials prior to teaching.
Instruction - Follow the required lesson plans and meet lesson objectives. Meet criteria for rigorous instruction.
Feedback – Complete feedback (anecdotals) on 5 of your students’ progress (celebrations and/or concerns) each week and report card comments for all students at the end of the semester.
Communication – Utilize SEO assigned email through Microsoft Outlook (Office 365) to communicate with SEO staff, students, and other instructors.
Abide by all SEO Procedures and Policies.

9th Grade
  • Classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.
  • Spring semester weekday classes begin on March 26th and end on May 16th. Academic programming for the Spring 2019 semester will take place on the following dates: March 26-28, April 2-4, April 9-11, April 16-18, April 29-May 2, May 7-8, and May 14-16.
  • Positions are available for Critical Reading and Math instructors.
 
10th Grade
  • Classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.
  • Spring semester weekday classes begin on February 6th and end on May 16th. Academic programming for the Spring 2019 semester will take place on the following dates: Feb 6-7, Feb 12-14, Feb 26-28, March 5-6, March 12-14, March 26-28, April 2-4, April 9-11, April 16-18, April 29-May 2, May 7-8, and May 14-16.
  • Positions are available for Critical Reading and Math instructors.
11th Grade
  • Classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.
  • Spring semester weekday classes begin on January 22th and end on May 16th. Academic programming for the Spring 2019 semester will take place on the following dates: Jan 22-24, Jan 29-31, Feb 6-7, March 5-6, March 12-14, March 19-21, April 2-4, April 9-11, April 16-18, May 7-8, and May 14-16.
  • Positions are available for SAT ELA and SAT Math instructors.
 
 

 

LOCATIONS

 

Weekday afterschool programming is held at four different sites, depending on grade level. Three of our sites are in Lower Manhattan (one site is the SEO office), and our fourth site is in Downtown Brooklyn. We do our best to match instructors with the more convenient location, but cannot guarantee instructors their site preference.
 

 

 
COMPENSATION

 

Instructors are compensated on a competitive hourly rate scale that starts at $36 / hour and increases by semester based on tenure with the organization as an SEO Instructor.
