Sports Coach for Elementary OST Program @ PS 188

 

 

The YWCA of the City of New York is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YW is seeking a Sports Coach to join our rich engaging program. We are looking for specialists committed to positive youth development and who are able to create and implement curriculum in an elementary school setting. Key attributes of a successful Sports Coach is the ability to manage complex and detailed tasks simultaneously; effectively integrate program philosophy and management policies consistent with organization’s mission and goals; utilize analytical skills and creativity to implement program initiatives, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently as necessary. The Sports Coach reports directly to the Program Director.

Required Skills/Experience:

 Primary Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·      Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of various sports as it relates to the season

·      Implement and facilitate developmentally appropriate sports curriculum for elementary school youth

·      Instruct students in sport techniques including but not limited to basketball drill, football drills and track methods

·      Demonstrate method, techniques, and procedures with students

·      Collaborate with the Director to plan and implement a YW tournament with neighboring schools and programs

·      Manage classroom effectively and create a positive learning environment

·      Submit required program documentation (i.e. class report).

·      Communicate effectively with the Program Director, colleagues, parents, and school-day staff

·      Attend staff meetings

·      Other duties as deemed necessary by the organization 

 

Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field strongly preferred

·      Previous coaching experience required

·      Previous experience as a sports based coach required

·      Previous teaching and/or group facilitation experience strongly preferred

·      Minimum of 21+ years of age

·      Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

·      Commitment to promoting YWCA’s social justice mission, educational and youth development philosophy

 

 

Salary range:   $20/Hr. 15 hours per week.

Monday thru Friday from 2:30p.m to 5:30pm.
