Job Description:

The Career Development Specialist (CDS) advises participating youths (18 -24) years of age regarding career interests and strategies, job search methods, resume preparation and related matters including personal and professional development. The Career Development Specialist (CDS) is responsible to develop, coordinate and ensure delivery of workforce preparatory services by providing information, assistance and access to the resources needed to make appropriate choices about training, education and employment. The CDS works collaboratively with the OSY team (Education Specialist, Case Manager, and Retention Specialist) to ensure the delivery of career development services and facilitate linkages with community organizations to support students’ transition to employment and/or post secondary education.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills. • Ability to analyze and solve problems. • Ability to make evaluative judgments. • Knowledge of applicable standards, policies and procedures within career development field. • Ability to develop and deliver presentations. • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants, and other community/government agencies. • Ability to make decisions with limited information. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adapt to the changing needs of program participants. • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing fast paced, growing, and demanding environment. • Ability to network with other departments and community service providers. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Computer Skills: • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel is required and computer literacy. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor degree in Human Services or related field or four years’ experience working in social service organization working in career development services. • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
