Job Description:

SUMMARY The purpose of the Career Development Specialist (CDS) is to develop, coordinate and ensure to delivery of culturally sensitive services for participating youths (18 -24) years of age in support of career goals. The Career Development Specialist is responsible for providing information and assistance to participants to ensure that participants have access to the resources they need to make appropriate choices about training, education and employment. The CDS works collaboratively with the OSY team (Education Specialist, Case Manager, and Retention Specialist) to ensure the delivery of career development services and facilitate linkages with parents and community organizations to support students’ transition to employment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned: •Coordinate career development services including planning activities in groups and individual counseling sessions. •Provide career assessment, development, occupational, labor market, and educational information and services. •Provide and coordinate the administration and interpretation of career assessments tests. •Develops and maintains contacts with community organizations and educational Institutions for the purpose of outreach, recruitment and positive public relations. •Counsels youths to the services and eligibility requirements of the HHA Training Program. •Assist participants with educational services to obtain a High School Equivalency or other services necessary to successfully complete the HHA Training Program. •Assist participants with transition into employment. •Provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employable skills. •Facilitate linkages with parents, educational institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to the HHA Training program and employment. •Weekly monitoring of youth performance outcomes and assessment of barriers in completing the program or transitioning to employment. •Maintain statistical, narrative and financial records including written records of contacts with clients. •Responsible for submitting required reports in a timely manner. •Ensure that case records are current and that case notes are recorded in a timely manner. Job Requirements •Excellent verbal and written communications skills and computer literacy. •Excellent interpersonal and public speaking communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, and other community/government agencies. •Excellent analytical skills and ability to make decisions with limited information. •Ability to maintain confidentiality and adapt to the changing needs of program participants. •Ability to thrive in a constantly changing, fast paced, growing, and demanding environment. •Ability to network with other departments and community service providers. •Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Computer Skills: •Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Familiar with Sales Force a plus. QUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor degree in career counseling, Human Services or related field. •Bilingual – English/Spanish a must. •Two years’ experience working in social service organizations with youths involved with counseling, case management, monitoring or other related experience.
