Position: Program Coordinator (Middle School-ages 10-12)

Department: Junior Department (Ages 10-12)
 
Location: Abbe, Flushing, Queens
               
Schedule: M-F, 3:00-8:00 
 
Salary: $14.00 p/ hour                                  
 
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time, Seasonal

Summary of Position
Program Coordinator-ages 10-12
The Program Coordinator participates in developing, implementing, supervising and evaluating educational, recreational or social programs to meet needs and interests of members ages 10-12.  He/she will also assist in managing support staff that may consist of program assistants, operations assistants, group leaders, program aides, and volunteers.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate structured programs including but not limited to service learning, leadership, group clubs, life skills, enrichment, and game instruction under the supervision of the department director.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of program curriculum and weekly lesson plans.
  • Work independently and be responsible for overseeing activities at designated locations, both internal (clubhouse program spaces) and external (parks, school facilities, and baseball/softball fields).
  • Address behavior management concerns and issues that occur with members as a “first line” before members head to the department director.
  • Setup and breakdown for special events, including occasional weekends, and evenings.  
  • Assist in training, supervising, directing and evaluating seasonal staff, volunteers and members, ensuring consistent ratio and supervision.

Required Skills/Experience:

  

Education and/or Experience
Post-secondary training or college credits; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Demonstrated organizational/ leadership ability; Associate’s degree (A.A.) preferred; ; Understanding of current and emerging issues in youth development theory and practice; History of success in roles managing multiple priorities; Results-oriented with a learning approach and good judgment.
