Organization Description South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive youth-development programs for low-income South Asian youth in New York City. Through academic support, leadership development, and enrichment programs, SAYA! presents youth with the possibility to expand their horizons and realize their dreams. SAYA! has 60 full-time and part-time staff, a budget of over $2 million and offers programs at 14 locations across Queens and Brooklyn. In our 18-year history, SAYA! has opened the door to over 9,500 youth who are often the first in their families to pursue college in the U.S. Position Summary Reporting to the Assistant Program Director and Education Director, the Educational Specialist for Out Of School Time (OST) Programs will be responsible for program design and performance management for all OST Programs. He or she will ensure systems and support are in place to operate a goal-oriented after school programs and enhance a culture of high performance. This individual should be a motivational leader, who will develop strategies to ensure that SAYA! staff are equipped to provide engaging and innovative learning opportunities designed to improve the performance of youth attending SAYA! OST Programs. The ideal candidate is comfortable with numbers as well as people and has a proven track record of successfully multitasking in a time-sensitive environment.

Required Skills/Experience:

Responsibilities Program Design • Develop and implement program curricula with a clear framework, learning objectives and lesson plans. • Ensure curriculum content reflects research-based best practices and consistency, coherence, and grade-level appropriateness across all materials. • Map and align curriculum by ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment of SAYA!’s principles across all sites, including addressing the NYS Common Core Learning Standards and OST requirements. • Help advance the integration of differentiated instruction into programming through strategies like: project-based learning and the use of technology. • Plan, conduct and debrief weekly program observations in collaboration with Assistant Program Director, Education Director and Site Directors. • Review weekly lesson plans and provide feedback to program staff. • Train and coach staff on the various curriculum being implemented at the sites. • Seek out opportunities to remain current in knowledge of relevant educational research, trends in the fields of education and youth development and curricula. Performance Management • Develop and implement performance management initiatives that result in employee performance, accountability, feedback, engagement and support. • Design and implement ongoing staff training and support including coaching. • Lead design of staff development systems addressing leadership development, professional skills development and career development. • Identify staff training and development needs and create solutions customized to meet those needs. Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's Degree preferred with experience in education and/or curriculum design • Experience with program development and evaluation. • Experience facilitating professional development experiences for a range of youth development and education positions. • Knowledge NYC Department of Youth and Community Development Out of School requirements preferred. • Experience in inspiring, motivating and coaching staff. • Ability to multitask and to work under tight deadlines. • Strong organizational and project management skills and detail oriented. • Need “can-do” attitude and be willing to do what it takes to get the job done. • Good judgment, strong ethical values, reliable and trustworthy. • Outstanding interpersonal skills; must be a team player. • Critical thinker, creative, open-minded and flexible.
