Associate Literacy Teachers will work with Literacy Teachers to provide a semi-structured literacy program on two afternoons a week to improve literacy skills and enrich the love of reading for boys in grades 1-4.  Associate Literacy Teachers will work for one afternoon a week with small groups of students in guided reading with leveled books and for one afternoon a week as an assistant to the Literacy Teacher, engaging the students in whole-group content.  Associate Teachers also help prepare and distribute materials as needed and reinforce classroom systems and environment.

·          Lead small-group Guided Reading sessions in which young boys gain practice in reading and discussing leveled books.

·         Assist Literacy teachers with instruction and classroom management as needed.

·         Occasionally substitute for Literacy Teachers.

·         Reinforce positive student behavior and clubhouse rules; maintain a positive relationship with all members and staff.

·          Prepare class materials, curriculum, and bulletin displays, and make copies as needed.


Education/ Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field; Previous experience as a teacher, teacher’s assistant, and/or tutor; Strong communication and teamwork skills; Knowledge of and preferably experience with guided reading and other literacy techniques; able to manage small and large groups of boys; Demonstrated leadership ability in an educational, social service and/or youth development settings.
